Washington : details of "October strike" in Somalia
The army said in a statement that it had killed a militant in an air strike in southern Somalia over the weekend during a battle between US and Somali forces and fighters of the militant al Shabaab movement.
"Our assessment now is that this air strike did not result in injury or killing of civilians," said the US Command in Africa.
In another blow on Oct. 1 near Kismayo in southern Somalia, nine militants were killed.
The United States has carried out 22 air strikes this year against Somalia-based al-Shabaab.
US forces in Somalia support the UN-backed government against al-Shabaab, which lost control of most of Somalia's towns and cities after its expulsion from Mogadishu in 2011.
Al Shabaab is one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations active in sub-Saharan Africa, often targeting Mogadishu with deadly attacks.
