Send explosive packages to suspect Florida
A law enforcement official said the suspect was arrested in the Miami area. The investigation focused on sending suspicious packages this week to South Florida and a postal sorting facility in the area.
"The suspect is a man in his 50s," the unidentified MSNBC television quoted an unnamed source as saying. CNN said the arrest took place in Plantation, near Lauderdale, Florida. Reuters was unable to verify the reports.
No one has claimed responsibility for sending the bombs, which the authorities denounced as terrorism, which came less than two weeks before congressional elections that could change the balance of power in Washington.
Officials said police found two suspicious packages on Friday aimed at Sen. Currie Booker and Senator James Clapper, former director of national intelligence.
Homeland Security Secretary Kersten Nielsen said Florida appeared to be the starting point for at least some packages. "Some parcels went through the mail, at least some of which was Florida," she said in an interview with Fox News. "I trust that this person or people will be brought to justice," she said.
All those who were sent the parcels were severely criticized by right-wing Americans.
