106-year-old Frenchman retires and returns to biking

Despite announcing his retirement from cycling, Frenchman Robert Marshand, 106, resumed training on Friday in an open-air bike course near Paris.

The man drove his bike in January last year and cut a distance of 22,528 kilometers in one hour, then 105 years, a record. Marshan will be 107 next month.

The UCI has set up a special category for more than 105 years to register its number.

Marshan doctors said he had to retire from cycling. His balance is not as strong as his heart seems to have some signs of weakness.

Born in November 1911 in northern France, Marchand began to ride the bike when he was 14, but took the sport seriously only after he was 67.
