Macron comments on re-publishing a French newspaper of cartoons insulting to the Prophet Muhammad
French President Emmanuel Macron said that he would not comment on the journalists' decision to publish, referring to the newspaper "Charlie Hebdo" reprinting cartoons offensive to the Prophet "Muhammad."
Macron added, according to (Reuters), in response to a question about the newspaper's decision: "We have freedom of expression and freedom of belief. We have freedoms in France, but we must also show respect and courtesy."
President Macron, who completed a two-day trip in Lebanon, stressed during a press conference in the capital Beirut, "We must not be drawn into the dialogue of hate."
The satirical French weekly "Charlie Hebdo", which was a target of militant militants in 2015, said today, Tuesday, that it has reprinted the controversial cartoons of the Prophet "Muhammad" to mark the start of the trial of the accomplices in the attack.
"We will not back down. We will never give up. The hate that afflicts us lingers on, and since 2015 it has taken time to transform, change her looks, lose sight of her, and calmly carry on with her campaign," the director, Laurent Reyes Sorriso, wrote in the final release.
